Unisa: Online applications for 2022

Apply for admission:

Undergraduate qualifications:

Applications for admission to undergraduate qualifications (higher certificates, advanced certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas & degrees) for the 2022 academic year will be open from 11 August to 15 October 2021. 

Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission. This includes

  • first-time Unisa applicants.
  • Unisa students changing to a new qualification and / or specialisation.
  • applicants who previously applied for admission and were not offered a space or who were offered a space, accepted the offer and did not register.
  • students completing a higher certificate or any other programme and who wish to continue with further undergraduate studies.
  • All applications for admission must be submitted online during the prescribed application period.

Applicants who plan to enrol for classes at a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college under the Unisa-TVET agreement may apply via the relevant TVET college or online through Unisa.

Honours & postgraduate diplomas:

Applications for admission to honours degrees and postgraduate diplomas for the 2022 academic year will be open from 11 August to 15 October 2021.

Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission, including first-time Unisa applicants, Unisa students changing to a new qualification and/or changing the specialisation of their current qualification, and applicants in their final year of an undergraduate qualification who wish to continue with postgraduate studies.

  • Unisa will accept applications for admission to the 2022 academic year from 11 August to 15 October 2021. Additional application dates may be announced if there are still spaces available for the 2022 academic year.
  • All applications for admission must be submitted online. No self-help stations will be available for applications at the regional offices.
  • Admission to a qualification is not automatic. It will depend on whether you comply with the admission requirements and if space is available.
  • Only complete applications (application fee paid, if applicable, and all supporting documents successfully uploaded) will be processed.

Please note:

  • If you are a first-time Unisa applicant and do not have a myLife e-mail address, Unisa will communicate with you via the e-mail address and cellphone number you provided during the application period.
  • If you were previously registered with Unisa, Unisa will send the outcome of your application to your myLife e-mail account. Please check this e-mail account regularly for information. If you have forgotten your myUnisa / myLife password, please go to myUnisa (https://my.unisa.ac.za) to update your password.
  • Unisa provides all registered students with a free myLife e-mail address. It is your responsibility to activate your myLife e-mail account as soon as your registration is finalised. Your myLife e-mail account will be the only e-mail account recognised by Unisa for official correspondence to and from the university, and will remain the official primary e-mail address on record at Unisa. Click here for Unisa’s rules for students.

Please use the e-mail address of the college under which your qualification resides (eg if you choose the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences, you should use the cashons@unisa.ac.za e-mail address).  Please do not send multiple e-mails or an e-mail to more than one e-mail address.

Master’s & doctoral qualifications:

Applications for admission to master’s & doctoral qualifications will be open from 8 September to 12 November 2021. Thereafter, only those qualifications with spaces available will remain open until the end of January 2022 (some exceptions apply).

  • Everyone wanting to start a new qualification must apply for admission, including first-time Unisa applicants, Unisa students wanting to apply for a new qualification, students in their final year of a qualification wanting to start a master’s or doctoral qualification, and previously registered master’s & doctoral students who did not register for the 2021 academic year and now wish to continue with their studies.
  • If you are applying for admission to a Graduate School of Business Leadership (GSBL) qualification, please apply for a Unisa student number (unless you previously studied at Unisa towards a formal qualification) and complete the online application process.

You may apply for the following qualifications outside the prescribed application dates:

Selection degrees Selection degrees (qualification codes: 90042, 90119, 90116 and 98420) have different closing dates for applications and are administered by the respective academic departments, unless otherwise indicated. Only a limited number of students are selected per academic year.
College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences MSc in Nature Conservation
College of Economic and Management Sciences Qualifications in the Department of Decision Sciences
College of Science, Engineering and Technology Qualifications in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology (except for Computer Science qualifications)
