ROLE PURPOSE

The purpose of this role is to assist with the enhancement and oversight of the finance function for a several statutory entities within Momentum Investments. The role will entail a statutory, reporting and financial control components which will inter alia include the day to day running of the accounting function and providing finance support to the business (as a business partner).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND WORK OUTPUTS

Perspective: Process

  • Oversee the end to end financial function for several legal entities in order to ensure that reports and submissions are accurate and timely and financial assets are appropriately controlled. The function would be responsible for at least the following: Statutory, management and regulatory reporting, reconciliations and control, accounting, taxation, process development and refinement.
  • Assist in the planning, developing and refining of the finance operating model as the needs and requirements of the business change.
  • Focussed on continually striving to improve reporting timelines and the quality and relevance of financial information being reported.
  • Assist in refining and maintaining the internal financial control monitoring, reporting and auditing frameworks.
  • Facilitate delivery of financial and administrative support services to the business as a finance business partner.
  • Provide insight and analysis to users of financial information by providing commentary thereon, including any trend analysis.
  • Assistance with the annual budget process.
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors.
  • Accountable for the full ledger function for the legal entities, including set-up, monthly maintenance and oversight.
  • Establish and promote healthy vertical and horizontal business processes that ensure efficient and effective client delivery within set expectations and agreed performance standards in the area of accountability and the overall optimisation of the value chain for Momentum Investments.
  • Assistance with the development and maintenance of appropriate infrastructure (IT, Service provider network, etc.) required for the efficient operations of the finance department.
  • Where possible, ensure that service delivery is automated, efficient and scalable.

  • Assist the finance operating framework and model is adequately, but realistically, budgeted for through the development and implementation of a fit for purpose budget.
  • Assist in effective financial management, control and corporate governance.
  • Assistance with the management of business related risks.

Perspective: Client Services

  • Implement and monitor service practices that meet clients and own organisation’s needs.
  • Ensure effective relationships and SLA management with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships between the finance team and key internal interest groups.
  • Ensure optimised customer service when dealing directly with end-user clients.
  • Contribute to a service culture which builds rewarding relationships, proposes innovations and allows others to provide exceptional client service.
  • Provide a professional finance service.
  • Participate in the design and application of a stakeholder feedback capability in respect of finance service delivery.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • B Com (Hons) Accounting or Finance
  • Professional Finance Affiliation (like AGA(SA) or CPA(SA) would be preferable
  • 2 to 5 years operational finance and reporting experience
  • Newly qualified CA’s will be considered
  • A RPL (recognition of prior learning) process may be considered for this role in conjunction with minimum qualifications
