Specification
- Decision making regarding roll, bearing and blade quality.
- React and correct defects according to inspection rule sets.
- Inspect and monitor roll and bearing quality to prevent unplanned changes at the Mills.
- Prevent stock loss due to excessive grinding.
- Recovering and manufacturing of rolls on the lathe.
- Maintenance and precision work on plant equipment Roll Grinder machine.
- Maintain backup assemblies, measurements T-dimension of bearings, back-up saddles, strip and build back-up rolls and chocks, servicing work and back-up choks.
Requirements
- Grade 12 (math’s and science) or N3/Metals Production NQ4.
- Ideal qualificaiton – Machine Tool fitter or Fitter and Turner Trade Certificate.
- Competent as a Roll Grinder/Machine Tool Fitter and Turner for 3-5 years.
- Understanding of CNC grinders, hydraulics and v-belts/pulleys as well as basic drawings and measuring tools.
- Competent and able to grind any type of roll and competent on all grinding machines (Toshiba, Tos Hostivar, Shibaura and Herkules).
- Ability to do computer feedback, Roll status and delay booking, defect booking, stock takes and month-ends.
- Must be able to assess cause of problems on the machine, read and use measuring instruments (micrometer, ra meter and verniers).
- An understanding of the production process/flow in the manufacturing environment will be advantageous.
- Committed and physically fit. Good communication skills and a sense of urgency. Ability to work under pressure, good team player.
