Business Need/Purpose of Role:

Weir is contributing towards skills development in South Africa, by providing opportunities to school leavers and unemployed youth to enter a four-year apprentice programme in the following trade:

  • Millwright.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Matric with Maths and Science above 60%
  • N3 in the Mechanical trade – passed all subjects above 60 percent
  • Or NCV Level 4 in the mechanical trades, passed all subjects at 60 % and above
  • Local Requirement: Applicants must have a letter from the Chief or municipal letter with accompanying affidavit that they reside no further than a 50 Km radius from the specific branch.
  • Preference will be given to EE candidates in line with our EE and Skills plans

Key Tasks:

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Conducting preventative maintenance on all electrical, instrumental and mechanical equipment.
  • Assembling and Installation of machinery and equipment.
  • Dismantling of machinery and equipment.
  • Aligning machinery and equipment.
  • Repairing, maintaining and lubricating machinery and equipment.
  • Attending to breakdowns, and attend to Break down analysis where required..
  • Participation in the Planned Maintenance Pillar and attend to TPM activities in the Engineering department.
  • Assist with production tasks as required. Ensuring that the production area is kept clean and tidy.
  • Carrying out of any other allocated tasks.
  • Adhering to the Weir Group Standards (rules and regulation of Health and Safety).
