Requirements
- You must be a South African citizen who resides and matriculated in Gauteng Province, and possess one of the following school-leaving certificates:
Senior Certificate (Standard 10)
- English HG D or SG C, Biology HG D or SG C, Mathematics HG D or SG C, and an M score of 17 or more.
National Senior Certificate (Grade 12)
- English Level 4, Life Sciences Level 4, Mathematics Level 4 or Maths Literacy Level 5, and an APS of 27 or more. Life Orientation contributes exactly half its level, without rounding.
National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4
- 50% in fundamental subjects: English First Additional Language, Maths/Maths Literacy and Life Orientation. 60% in the vocational subjects: SA Health Care System, Public Health, The Human Body and Mind, and Community Oriented Primary Care.
Assessment and verification
All shortlisted applicants will undergo a compulsory psychometric assessment. Successful applicants in the psychometric assessment will be required to undergo medical surveillance and verification of all documentation.
Applicants who are currently receiving a bursary, scholarship, financial assistance or funding from any government department, provincial government, public entity or state-funded scheme (including NSFAS) for tertiary, higher education or vocational studies will not be considered.
Applicants already enrolled at another university, university of technology, TVET college, nursing college or other tertiary or higher education institution, whether full-time, part-time or through distance learning, will also not be considered for this programme.
How to apply
Scan and upload your original matriculation certificate (Senior, National Senior or National Vocational Level 4 certificate) and identification document in PDF format. No walk-ins will be allowed.
Applications must be submitted through the nursing intake portal. Completing the recruitment and selection process does not guarantee selection for the programme.

The department reserves the right to verify applicant eligibility through official records and may disqualify candidates found to be in breach.
Successful applicants
- Sign a learning contract with Gauteng College of Nursing.
- Participate in Work Integrated Learning (WIL), including shifts and work on public holidays, weekends and nights in Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics as part of the programme requirements.
Due to the large number of applications received, only successful candidates will be contacted. There are no fees payable by applicants to be admitted to Gauteng College of Nursing.
