Globeleq: Internship Programme 2024 – The Engineering Intern will assist in the management and execution of engineering maintenance, grid-code compliance and project-related tasks within the Engineering department.  Together with the Engineering Department, the Engineering Intern will focus on the development, implementation and maintenance of sound engineering practices through Globeleq’s existing assets, assets under development and assets under construction, with the intention of optimising life-cycle performance.  The role may require frequent travel for onsite activities.

Key Responsibilities

1.  Grid code
  • Update PowerFactory global library
  • Check models against as built drawings and other sources of data to ensure accuracy
  • Roll out new devices and locations in StationWare
  • Create settings master templates
  • Perform settings audits and upload as applied settings into StationWare
2.  Technical documentation
  • Assist in managing technical documentation flow between drawing contractor and technical document management system
  • Sorting technical documentation
  • Extracting materials masters and equipment registers from drawings
  • Assist in managing StationWare and document management system
3.  Technology and Quality
  • Participate in the evaluation, review and recommendation of suitable suppliers and contractors
  • Monitor stock and spares quality and suitability
  • Investigate new engineering technology
  • Investigate equipment/material failure
  • Investigate maintenance failures
  • Focused Improvement database management and prioritisation of impact
  • Assist in spares obsolescence process (identifying obsolete spares, finding and/or engineering alternatives)
4. Project Engineering
  • Conduct feasibility studies for proposed new capital projects
  • Conduct conceptual and/or basic engineering design work
  • Drafting of basic Request for Quotation scope of work
  • Drafting of basic engineering specifications and standards
5. Project Management
  • Assist with the delivery of projects on time, within budget and to agreed contractor quality
  • Create project schedules
  • Monitor capital improvement project progress
  • Monitor and report on the performance of service providers in terms of quality, cost and time
  • Manage minor projects and follow up on project tasks as required
6.  General Engineering Department Assistance
  • Participate in ISO 55 000 related activities
  • Assist with the development of commissioning and testing database
  • Perform Microsoft tracker and work planner updates
  • Update reports, projects and collate Engineering team feedback
  • Manage basic procurement, invoicing and claims administration
  • Assist with team travel bookings and arrangements
  • Offer general administrative assistance to the Engineering team
  • And any other duties, as assigned by the Engineering Manager or Power Engineers, in line with the role.

Experience, Knowledge and Qualifications
  1.  Minimum of a BTech/BSc(Eng.)/BEng in Electrical(Heavy Current)/Electro-Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering completed
  2. As this is an internship position, applicants should have no more than 1 year’s relevant working experience; excluding in service training
  3. Some exposure or interest in wind and photovoltaic plants would be an advantage
  4. Good MS Word and MS Excel skills; exposure to MS project (or similar) and MS PowerPoint would be an advantage
  5. Valid light vehicle driver’s license would be an advantage
